ABSTRACT
[PURPOSE] This study aims to analyze how convergence education can be designed and implemented in university general education through the case of the “CUP General Lecture.” It also explores how a religious education perspective can be incorporated within this educational context. [CONTENTS] This study examines the curriculum design and operation of the “CUP General Lecture,” which was organized around the common theme of “violence.” The course was structured by integrating four perspectives: philosophy, science, history, and religious studies. It connected multidisciplinary lectures with reflective reports, team-based design thinking projects, presentations, and evaluation. This study analyzed curriculum development plans, syllabi, weekly operation materials, evaluation documents, and anonymized course evaluation data in order to examine the design principles and operational characteristics of the course. [RESULTS] The course demonstrated the possibility of convergence-oriented general education by arranging diverse disciplinary perspectives around a common theme in a mutually complementary way and linking them to reflection and team-based problem-solving activities. In particular, the religious studies perspective did not function as an element that transformed the entire course into religious education. Rather, it served as an academic perspective that deepened students’ understanding of humanity and reflection on values. Therefore, this study is significant as a case study showing that convergence education and a religious education perspective can meaningfully intersect within university general education.
